Russian piano virtuoso Olga Kern, widely recognized as one of her generation’s greatest pianists, will perform with her son, pianist Vladislav Kern, in a recital to benefit her Aspiration Foundation. The performance will be Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the intimate 300-seat Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arvada. The program will include selections by composers Liszt, Czerny, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff. The concert will offer an opportunity to meet Ms. Kern and her son at a reception.Tickets are $100 by calling 303-422-3656 or online at www.tpcarvada.org and then click on the “2nd Tuesdays” link.

As a young Russian pianist, Ms. Kern took the world by storm when she offered an award-winning gold-medal performance at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2001.  This led to triumphs at Carnegie Hall and performances in concert halls throughout the world from Moscow to Milan, Zurich, Paris, China, Cape Town, Pittsburgh, Edinburgh, Warsaw and more.

Vladislav Kern, as a young Russian prodigy, performed his first concert with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at age 6, and is now a student of the Juilliard School of Music. Last year he received the prestigious Van Cliburn scholarship and is the winner of many international festivals in Russia, South Africa, Denmark and a solo concert at the Lincoln Center in New York. Earlier this year he toured Northern Italy, performed in Russia and Denmark and will perform in the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Russia and return to New York.

This recital will benefit the Aspiration Foundation, a noncommercial charitable organization formed in 2011 at the initiative of Ms. Kern. Its main goal is to assist children in Russia gifted in music in helping them develop their talent and artistic activities in Russia and abroad. The Foundation also supports the preservation and development of cultural values.

Trinity Presbyterian Church is at 7755 Vance Dr., Arvada, CO 80003. A map can be accessed on the church website. Parking is free. Trinity is handicapped accessible.

Audiences and reviewers alike offer kudos for Kern’s talent and charisma: “Kern’s musicality radiates off the stage and saturates the hall, and it is joyously alive, immediately communicative, fragrantly sensual, and almost visual in its intensity. Whatever it is – call it star quality – music likes Kern the way the camera liked Garbo.” — Ronald Broun, The Washington Post
